Lab 2: Is Yawning Contagious?

Introduction: On the Mythbusters TV show, the hosts investigated whether yawning is contagious. We will analyze the data from their last study, an experiment where visitors to a local flea market were given a "yawn seed" or "no yawn seed' (the explanatory variable). The response variable is whether or not the participants yawned within a specific time period when isolated. From this study, we can determine whether the group that received the yawn seed was significantly more likely to yawn than the group that did not receive a yawn seed.

Goals: To produce and analyze some simple numerical and graphical summaries (applying ideas from Topic 6) for data from a recent research study investigating whether yawning in front of people makes them more likely to yawn. To continue to explore the concept of statistical significance for the scenario of comparing two groups on a categorical response variable.
