- Verify that the population is set to be Normal with mean 8 and standard deviation 1.5 (or so).
- Check the Show Sampling Options box.
- Set the Sample Size to match your class data
- Press Draw Samples.
The graph in the Most Recent Sample is the dotplot for this random sample of students from this hypothesized population. Note the shape, mean, and standard deviation of this distribution (should mimic the population's). The graph to the right shows the one sample mean that you have generated.
- Press Draw Samples again.
You will see a new sample and a second sample mean in the Statistic graph.
- Now change the Number of Samples to 998 (for 1000 total) and press Draw Samples.
- In the Count Samples box, change the pull-down menu to Less Than (to match the direction of the alternative hypothesis) and specify the observed sample mean for our class in the box.
- Press Count.
- Take a screen capture of the graph of the sample means and paste into your report
