Option rough drafts of final reports need to be turned in Friday, April 23, to be reviewed by Monday.

Final project reports are due Friday, April 30 by 9:30am

Presentations are Wednesday April 28 and Friday April 30, order to be determined at random Monday.

Lab 14 is due April 29. All extra credit and extensions assignments are due by May 3.

The take-home part of the final exam will be handed out April 30, to be completed by 8am, May 7. The in class final is May 7, 8-11.

A comprehensive review sheet and a practice set of multiple choice review questions will be handed out April 30. May 3 will be a review day, come prepared with constructive questions. I am also open to scheduling an additional review May 6, let me know if there is interest.

2) Identify the appropriate inferential procedure, stating H0 and Ha when appropriate:

(a) A random sample of 64 homes in a small community found that an average of 160 gallons of heating oil were consumed over a given period of time. It is known that the amount of heating oil consumed is close to normally distributed with a standard deviation of 32 gallons. Estimate the amount of heating oil consumed over this period by all residents of the community.

b) A store owner wants to know whether an advertising campaign has increased mean daily receipts. The daily receipts for the 2 weeks prior to the campaign were recorded as well as the receipts for a 2-week period after the campaign.

c) In a survey of adult Americans in 1986, people were asked to indicate their age and to categorize their political ideology (Liberal, Moderate, Conservative). The investigators want to know if people under 30 and people over 30 classify themselves differently.

d) There are approximately 30,000 companies that are members of a charitable collaborative across the entire country. A random sample of 250 of these companies is taken and it is found that 210 of the CEO's and 8410 of the 15,000 junior executives hold at least a master's degree. Estimate how many more CEO's hold at least a master's degree.

e) A study was design to determine the effect of certain music videos on the moral attitude of teenagers. The scores are the ratings from 0 to 20 on a moral attitude scale recorded before and after the teens viewed the film. You are asked to conclude if the video has an effect of the moral attitude on viewers.

f) One theory is that the warm phase of El Niño tends to suppress hurricanes, whereas a cold phase encourages hurricanes. Information on the numbers of storms and resulting hurricanes from 1950 through 1995 was recorded and each year was classified as a warm, cold or neutral El Niño year to test the above theory.

(g) We assume that our wages will increase as we gain experience. You record data on the length of service in months and wages for 60 women. Estimate the increase in wages per month of service.

3) Complete the Overview of Statistical Tests, including formulas, numerical and graphical summaries, and technical assumptions for each situation. You also need to know how to check the technical assumptions.
