A one-sided, greater than alternative hypotheses

·         Type I error corresponds to a 0.250 hitter getting 9 or more hits. 

·         Type II error corresponds to a 0.333 hitter getting 8 or fewer hits.

·         Power corresponds to a 0.333 hitter getting 9 or more hits.

 

A one-sided, less than alternative hypothesis

 

A two-sided alternative hypothesis.  The P(type I error) would add the probabilities in the two regions together.  Power would add the probability of two regions together as well, but the probability is usually negligible in the second region.
