- Verify that the population distribution is approximately normal with mean 8 and standard deviation 1.51.
- Check the Show Sampling Options box.
- Set the Number of Samples to 1 and the Sample Size to match our class survey.
- Press Draw Samples.
The sample will appear in the textbox and dotplot below and the average of the sleep times from that sample will appear in the graph to the right.
- Press Draw Samples again.
You will see a new sample in the box and a second sample mean in the Statistic graph.
- Now change the Number of Samples to 998 (for 1000 samples total) and press Draw Samples.
- Below the graph of sample means, change the pull-down menu to Less Than (to match the direction of the alternative hypothesis) and specify the observed sample mean for our class in the box. Press Count.
- Take a screen capture of the histogram of 1000 sample means with the count output and paste into your report (shrink to fit into the table)..
