- External Aids Do you allow students to use any external reference aids on exams? (For example, open book, open notes, student supplied note pages or formulas, instructor supplied note pages.)
- For instructor supplied aids, please describe. For any student supplied aids, what restrictions do you enforce? (For example, number of pages, content such as not allowing worked out examples, authorship such as personally generated vs. photocopied.)
I allow students to bring in a page of notes to the exam, but I restrict what can be on the page. They can't include worked out examples. Students turn in the page of notes with the exam, so that I can look them over. I return them with the exam. Students can use one page (front and back) for each midterm and two pages for the final (they usually just add to the sheets they used for the midterms). I usually tell students it is best to make up the page of notes as they are studying. Then, when they think they are done studying, I suggest they try and solve the questions on a sample exam to test themselves to see if they are really ready.I provide copies of any tables (Normal, t, etc.) that they might need, but these are the only instructor-supplied aids that I provide.
